Guest Presenter: Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt

The Racialized Faculty Caucus cordially invites the SUNY Empire State Community to be in conversation with critically acclaimed author and professor, Dr. Reshmi Dutt- Ballerstadt on her latest book “CIVILITY, FREE SPEECH, AND ACADEMIC FREEDOM IN HIGHER EDUCTION: Faculty on the Margins published by Routledge (2021).

Dr. Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt received her Ph.D. from University of Minnesota in English, specializing in postcolonial literature and theory and traditional feminisms. She also holds a M.A. degree in creative writing. Her scholarly creative works and op-eds have been published in the Journal of Asian American Renaissance, Jouvert: Journal of Postcolonial Studies, Saranac Review, South Asian Review, Rocky Mountain Review, ARIEL, Departures in Critical Qualitative Research, Academe, Journal of Academic Freedom, Inside Higher Ed, Counterpunch, Truthout, and others. She is the author of the book, The Postcolonial Citizen: The Intellectual Migrant published in 2010. She is also the editor for Inside Higher Ed’s column “Conditionally Accepted” and the founder of AcademicTrauma for BIPOC faculty where she co-leads various workshops that specifically impact marginalized faculty in higher ed. Thursday, March 3 from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm and will engage in a conversation about increasingly corporatized universities and the ways in which racialized faculty get silenced while promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts. About the Racialized Faculty Caucus webinar series: The purpose of the series is to provide the College community an opportunity to critically examine matters concerning racial and social justice, and to think collaboratively about how we might play a role in achieving a more just and equitable workplace and society. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of the President with generous support of funds from the SUNY Empire Foundation.
